Suzannah Ball

Suzannah has been at WME since 2019 and is based in the London office. She is a 2025 Bookseller Rising Star and is excited to be building her list with an emphasis on all things romance, horror, fantasy and speculative fiction. She’s proud to work with authors who have a vivid imagination and are able to tap into a reader’s deepest desires.
She reads widely, but some books she has recently enjoyed are ATMOSPHERE by Taylor Jenkins Reid, IN AT THE DEEP END by Kate Davies, THE NIGHT CIRCUS by Erin Morgenstern, ONE DARK WINDOW by Rachel Gillig, and the entire catalogue of Emily Henry and Lucy Score. Across all genres, she wants to read a beautifully crafted story with a strong narrative voice.
Suzannah represents adult and crossover fiction as well as a select list of non-fiction, and is keen to work closely with both debut and experienced authors to help them develop material and ideas. Some of her clients include Instant Sunday Times Bestselling author Jennifer Delaney, #1 NYT Bestseller Philippa Rice, and founder of Rare Birds books Rachel Wood, among many others. And alongside her US colleagues, she represents the UK interests of various clients including Sarah A. Parker, SenLinYu, Callie Hart, and romance authors Ivy Fairbanks, Chelsea Curto, Annie Crown and Peyton Corinne. She loves working with authors from across the world and finding their books the right home outside of their primary market.
She’s on the lookout for a story that will immediately sweep her away and writing that pulls at the heartstrings, especially if it can make her cry. When it comes to Science Fiction & Fantasy, Suzannah is drawn to well thought out and crafted new worlds; worlds that are bold and new and do something a little different from what’s already in the current market – surprise and intrigue her! And bonus points if it has a romance at its centre which can help drive the adventure forward or gives the characters a reason to survive.
In general, when it comes to romance, it needs to be swoon-worthy, she wants her stomach to literally drop when the main characters (inevitably) have their first fight and then reconciliation. It’s essential then when it comes to love stories, be it small town or epic, you can feel the raw gut punch of real emotion. And she’s especially keen to find a big sweeping love story or a romance with a genre blend that surprises her, anything that will get people talking and rooting for the central couple as if they were real.
Suzannah is also a fan of books with a darker edge; anything gothic, a bit weird or uncanny, and wants to lose herself in speculative fiction on the more literary end too – she’s a big fan of Emily St. John Mandel and Julia Armfield and loves it when stories use magical realism or dystopia to explore what it feels like to be human, think of how while The Last of Us may be a show about zombies it more realistically follows human nature being pushed to the limit.
In non-fiction, she is obsessed with all things pop culture, entertainment, and the arts.
